Intro

Online shopping transactions grew +18.3%, mobile +25.5%

In 2019, online shopping transactions amounted to 134.58 trillion won, an increase of 18.3% year-on-year, and mobile shopping transactions increased by 25.5% to 86.7 trillion won.

Online shopping transactions by product group increased in all product groups, including food service (84.6%), food and beverage products (26.1%), and household appliances, electronics, and communication devices (24.6%).

The composition of online shopping transactions by product group was the highest in the order of travel and transportation services (12.6%), clothing (11.0%), and home appliances, electronics, communication devices (10.7%), Beauty (9.1%) and Food (12.5%).

ON-LINE SALES TRASACTION OCCURED FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES (AMOUNT OF FOREIGNERS WHO BOUGHT ON KOREAN ON-LINE PLATFORMS)

In the fourth quarter of 2019, online overseas direct sales amounted to 1.87 trillion won, an increase of 92.9% year-on-year.
Duty-free shop sales out of online overseas direct sales amounted to KRW 1.65 trillion KRW increased by 114.5%.

When comaring to the previous quarter, overseas direct sales increased 22.6% (duty-free sales increased 23.1%).

ON-LINE CROSS BORDER SALES

Online Sales generated by Cross-Border shoppers outside of Korea: Chinese consumers are buying mostly on Korean Duty Free on-line shops.

Online foreign direct sales by country (continent) in the fourth quarter of 2019 : KRW 1.65 trillion in China, AS566 at KRW 56.5 billion, and Japan at KRW 54.5 billion.

Year on Year, China (112.2%) and ASEAN (24.6%) increased.
Vs previous quarter, The United States (-4.4%) and Japan (-1.7%) declined but China (25.6%), EU (77.8%) and ASEAN (6.8%) increased.

Duty free e-shop sales amounted to KRW 1.5 trillion from China, KRW 29.7 billion from ASEAN, and KRW 10.4 billion from Japan.
